Raiding in 2010...

by meganjo, 63 days ago

Raiding in 2010 has gotten off to a great start! Congratulations to everyone for taking down bosses one and two in Barad Guldur this week.

This is your inspiration when you don't have me the next few days:

Lots of stuff is changing, so watch this space and the kin message of the day for the latest raid info. Welcome to all the new people, and if you cannot use rapid raid, tell an officer so we can get it fixed as soon as possible.

In ancient times when the Elves began their Great Journey westward to the Undying Lands, some of the Elves were reluctant to cross the Misty Mountains and decided to settle in Mirkwood, the great woods along the Anduin. Those that remained in the woods came to be called Silvan Elves, or Wood-Elves.

Mirkwood is the largest forest in Middle-earth. From north to south, the forest covers approximately 425 miles. Amon Lanc, a rocky and barren hill, is the highest point in the southwestern part of the forest.

After Sauron was defeated in the War of the Last Alliance, he retreated to Amon Lanc, where he built a fortress to hide in secrecy while recovering his strength and as a base to attack Lothlórien in the future. As the evil force residing there became apparent to the outside world, it was named the Necromancer.

It was not known at first that Sauron had regained physical form and was nursing himself to health; it was believed that a Nazgûl dominated the tower and land. But as the power grew in strength, Gandalf the Grey became suspicious and travelled to Dol Guldur to investigate.

Sauron anticipated his coming and withdrew to the East to remain hidden in secrecy. Thus began what later became known as the The Watchful Peace, which lasted until T.A. 2460, when Sauron finally returned to Dol Guldur after years of hiding.

Thráin II, King of Durin's folk, the last bearer of one of the seven Rings of Power given to the Dwarves, was captured by Sauron's forces and kept at Dol Guldur, where he yielded his ring to Sauron under torture. Gandalf went again to Dol Guldur to investigate his suspicions of the power that was rising, learned that this was indeed Sauron, and found Thráin in the dungeons close to death.

Again anticipating the Wise, Sauron left Dol Guldur for Mordor. Ten years later, when Sauron declared himself openly in Mordor, he sent three nazgûl back to reoccupy Dol Guldur. Khamûl (one of the three) commanded the fortress in Sauron's absence.

tl;dr
